Relax
Sitting outdoors sipping coffee from a glass watching the world go by is something of a necessity for most who live in Los Alcázares. Over the years I have tried to move around a little so that this ritual doesn't feel like groundhog day. Nothing wrong with a little diversity now and again, that said many have their regular spots.
There are some very special places that come to mind that maybe not so obvious to most. As always my articles are in no way designed to be one sided, the objective being that you may discover new and exciting places that may soon be on your radar.
Municiple Golf
There are two places that are not so obvious here, not more than a 3 minute drive from the military base on the edge of town are two places that should be marked as worth a look.
La Serena Golf
A beautiful restaurant and outside terrace allows for panoramic views albeit green in colour. Coffee on the terrace gives you a real sense of being somewhere different.
The real plus here is the design as it's very well laid out and roomy, you really can sit and watch the world go by. A great place to meet friends or to get away alone. You can park outside and if you come in the mornings, you can often see people on the training area.
The Hotel Senator Del Mar Menor is my other hidden gem. A four star hotel located a stones throw from the Golf centre, in fact at the end of the road. A beautiful setting that makes you feel as if you are on holiday, if that's at all possible in a place like this.
Beautifully laid out and open to the public you will find that it's a fantastic place that is clean, bright and has a lovely ambience.
El Carmoli
Unknown to most there is a small mountain located about 8 km away from Los Alcazares. This small urbanisation offers one of the few elevated viewpoints on the Mar Menor. A protected area and listed as an official touristic site, it boasts an extinct volcano. Once upon a time the area was used to store munitions and as you trek up the mountain you can still see some of the original out houses still standing.
In the centre of the mountain sits a restaurant which is still owed by the same (French)owners for 3 generations. It's beautiful position offers something magical and unique and should be visited or at least on your to do list.
